Berners Tavern, Covent Garden
The first thing you will notice when you walk into Berners Tavern is the beautiful architecture of the building. A stunning room- so much light and beautiful portraits adorning the walls. Charming and inviting- so far so good!
Me and my guests were seated relatively quickly, greeted by the roving champagne drinks trolley- who can complain?! We visited on a Sunday during the day, so the full ala carte menu is not available which was slightly annoying but there were a range of beautiful other options to contend with. We settled on the lunch menu; I opted for the macaroni cheese with beef and my friend the burger. Whilst we waited the waiter offered a great selection of drinks, and as it was a particularly balmy Sunday afternoon we opted for the refreshing pink gin and tonic.
The drink served in an old school press- what a delight, I have to say I was impressed, this drink was light, refreshing and quenched the thirst. The lovely old school press also added that charming touch. Great start…
For a Sunday afternoon, this place was packed, so many people sampling the delicious lunch menu treats, there is a lovely vibrancy at Berners Tavern and it definitely makes the list of one of the most instagrammable locations- for my fellow instagrammers out there you need to visit.
Finally, our food arrived, the size of my macaroni and cheese- my word I was not expecting that. Beautifully cooked pasta, a wonderfully cheesy decadent sauce. Beautifully crisp and topped with lashings of beef- this really was a main fit for more than one. This dish was enough to knock me into a food coma for the rest of the day. Beef cooked so well, it fell apart at the touch, oodles of macaroni cheese piled high on my dish, creamy and deliciously flavoured- I was not disappointed. My friend opted for the burger, again very well-cooked meat, served slightly pink in the middle. A wonderful brioche bun to serve it in, served with chunky thick cut chips. Both of us were very happy- and on this occasion, I just had to share my macaroni cheese and there was plenty left over for a third person. I would definitely order this again.
All in all, it was a great experience at Berners Tavern and I would definitely return again to sample the full ala carte menu. I will add to the list and return one evening to sample more.
