The Ritz London- Quintessentially British- Decadence and opulence just stunning!

The Ritz, London

Passion Fruit and Orange Tea- light and refreshing and oh so delicious!

Ladies and Gents if you are looking for that somewhere special to take your loved ones, friends, family, mother’s day, father’s day or just a lovely family day out treat- look no further than the Ritz, London. It’s everything you would have thought, real luxury and decadence! Or if you’re like me- any excuse to dress up will make this a must see! Absolutely stunning!!

The entrance to the afternoon tea area- so beautiful

Seated at this absolutely stunning table, we are greeted by a wonderful old school, very English waiter. We were taken through the menu and choices of teas- passion fruit and orange for me and all i will say is that it was one of the most refreshing teas i have tried ever! You can see why the Ritz is a favourite amongst bloggers and food writers alike.

A quintessentially  British menu and the tea range that rivals others that i have seen at other high-end luxury Afternoon Teas. There are a number of choices when you book online (and i suggest you book well in advance as slots get taken very quickly), we opted for the Champagne Afternoon Tea in this instance (which is a little more expensive) but this is one of those one-off experiences you will want to indulge a little!

On to the important stuff- the food! Lovely finger sandwiches, with a decent range of options- nothing overly spectacular and if i had to compare it to the likes of the Mandarin Oriental- the savouries need a little more refinement! Other than that, the staff replenished sandwiches swiftly and they were definitely filling. I think i just expected something more (maybe i’d built up the experience in my head a little too much before visiting).

On to the sweets now…standard, lovely fresh scones adorn these pretty china plates and definitely give you that warm feeling. Served with clotted cream and both raspberry and strawberry jams! No complaints here at all.

On to the pastries/ cakes and other sweet delights- if like me you are a fan of the macaron the Ritz afternoon tea does an absolutely wonderful job; light and crisp, great flavour with a wonderfully fresh yoghurt and blackcurrant filling, this was packed with flavour and did not disappoint- my favourite part of the afternoon tea! The mango and passionfruit mousse was also lovely and light. Some of the other scrumptious cakes that floated through the dining room, included a rhubarb and custard tart and a cake trolley with an assortment of cheesecake and other treats for you to select as you like.

A few drinks and nibbles post afternoon tea to soak in the atmosphere and this glorious venue in all its glory!

I would say overall my experience of the Ritz Afternoon tea was lovely. The tea itself was wonderful, i may even go back and purchase the blend i drank. It was just so light and refreshing. The sandwiches could have been better but the scones and scrumptious macaron really did make up for this!

Overall sophsterldn rating 8/10 (location 10/10 so easy to find and right by Green Park station, Service 9/10 (lovely, polite servers and quick) and finally the food (8/10 only because the sandwiches needed that extra something)
