Batata-hara aka the spicy potato- side dish of dreams!!!

Good evening angels- this evening i happen to find myself at home, cancelled plans (a friend is unwell- very happy to stay far away from that lurghy, but also hope they feel better soon). Is there any better feeling than JOMO (the joy of missing out)… sometimes you just need a Saturday night in with some cosy clothes and deliciously scrumptious homemade food!

If you tried this recipe and loved it, drop me a message below and let me know how you liked it with a rating and comment! Feel free to also leave a question there about this recipe and I’ll get right back to it.

Prep time- 20 mins, Cook time- 20 mins, Devouring the dish- seconds!

So to the ingredients- and this one is easy:

For the scrummy potatoes:

For the spicy red onion and pepper potatoes:

To cook:

Potatoes- i cubed and par boiled for 8 mins then drained and patted dry; then fried in that lovely oil of choice for a few mins until golden brown leave to the side.

For the spicy sauce:

Add your red onion, red pepper and a little of the coriander in to a pan- fry in olive oil until nice and soft, drop in your tomato paste, cumin, red chilli flakes (chillies optional), garlic and let it all cook for around 4-5 mins.

Once all combined and the tomato paste darkens slightly in colour to a reddish brown- add your salt and pepper and stir; at this point add your potatoes back in.

The final step- add your remaining coriander for garnish and squeeze that lemon juice in for that extra freshness and lift to the dish and voila your batata hara is done!

Taste the dish at this point if you want to adjust any ingredients- make it spicier a little more salty etc- do it to taste! The beauty of this dish (and i went non traditional by adding peppers) you can adapt and have fun with your food to make it taste exactly as you like.

Dish up and grab a spoon/ fork- dig right in and share nothing!

Enjoy- i love to serve this with homemade kebabs or even pitta and humous- honestly it’s such a great dish and if you manage to say any you can store left overs for the next day!

I hope you enjoy it xxx
